The "Belt and Road" Initiative

The "Belt and Road" Initiative represents one of the world's most expansive plan to promote market integration and forge new ties among different economies initiated by Mainland China. Between 2010 and 2016, Mainland China's fleet size increased by almost 182 percent, from 1,047 aircrafts to 2,950. Of the top ten countries contributing the most traffic growth in 2016, six were "Belt and Road" countries – Mainland China, India, UAE, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. In Asia Pacific and the Middle East, where most "Belt and Road" countries are located, the annual traffic is forecasted to grow at a promising 5.6 percent and 6.7 percent respectively through 2036.
